The Apalachicola Housing Authority was established in 1959 together with the City of Apalachicola after the desire to build low-rent housing pursuant to the United States Housing Act of 1937. The Housing Authority consists of 54 public housing units. The City of Apalachicola has been ranked among the top places to live and play over the past several years. The city is also known for its low cost of living, but consequently suffers from a weak job market.
